Its Would You Ever Guess Wednesday at Erica's Craft Room

Would You Ever Guess Wednesday is when we use cuts from cartridges that are not on the normal keys on the overlay We try to look at the other function keys. Today, I kind of messed up the theme a little. We could have done the normal WYEGW or do a floral arrangement in anything but a vase. I missed seeing the floral arrangement part of the assignment. I only remembered Home Decor. The tree is the only part of my project that matches the theme. So sorry!!!

Today I altered a wooden box that I actually had to dumpster dive to save! I know my co-workers thought I was really crazy but they helped me get it! The great part was, they dumpster was empty except for this box and it wasn't even yucky!! (If it had been...well, I think the box could have stayed there!!)

So, I started with this...I painted the edges that would show through the paper
And I ended with this!

Anyway, this box held a Kentucky Bourbon cake and the minute I saw the box, I knew I wanted to alter it and make it into something! I decided it would make a fantastic album box for pages devoted to telling the story of how we built our house. I have all the photos of the step by step progress and although we have lived here 8 years, I have yet to scrap any of them!

I used the Simple Stories papers. One set of Generations and one set of Destinations that I bought from Erica's store. (Here is the link to her store...you should check it out. She has some great prices! http://www.shop.ericascraftroom.com/ )

For the lid of the box, I cut a large circle from Plantin Schoolbook (11") and glued it in place. Next I found a house on the Create A Critter cartridge. (cut at 4"). The tree is from Art Philosophy and was cut at 6.50". I welded the words Our Home from the Billionaire Lite cartridge and they were cut at 2"

I had so much fun altering this box. I need to begin making pages telling the story of our home.

My Cricut Craft Room's 100+ Cartridge Blog Hop

Welcome to My Cricut Craft Room's 100 Cartridge Blog Hop

You should have come from..... Tanya at http://nonnascraftcorner.blogspot.com/
If you did not please start at the begining of the hop at
http://mycricutcraftroom.blogspot.com/

My project for the hop is a layout taken during our most recent vacation to Anna Maria Island Florida and it features four different cartridges, some chipboard, and shrink plastic.
Here are the cuts, the cartridges they came from and the sizes:

  • Ship - Pack Your Bags - 2.18 (using the Gypsy to size)
  • Waves - Life is a Beach - sized to 1" high and then I welded pieces until the entire wave was 11" in length
  • Background shape - Splish Splash - fit to page and I hid the extra lines so it would only cut the shape shown
  • The word Beached is from Billionaire. I love this cartridge for welding words!! I used the Gypsy to create a shadow also and then cut the shadow from chipboard so the title is layered.
  • Dolphins - these were cut from shrink plastic at 4" and then colored with Prismacolor pencils.
Here is a close up of the ship and the dolphins. I used Glossy Accents for the windows in the ship and on the dolphins, I used my Peachy Keen face stamps. The waves were popped up using lots of dimensional foam squares. I chalked the white strips of waves to add more depth and alternated white wave strips with blue ones. Thanks for visiting my blog. I will be offering a little blog candy. Please follow my blog and leave one comment. Winner will be chosen Tuesday night, Sept 6th using Random.org.

Next you should go to Yvette's blog http://gammascreativecorner.blogspot.com/ and see what fun project she has for you:

Birthday Card - Billionaire

This card was made for my brother's birthday. I cut the car at 2 inches from the Billionaire cartridge. The scalloped circle behind it was cut at 3 1/2 inches from Mini Monograms. The banner with the stamped sentiment is from Winter Frolic. I used my Gypsy and changed the size to fit my card. It was 1.50 inches in height and 4 in width ( I think...I forgot to write it down!)
